Individually adapted implants, which are completely integrated into the body and, in the long term, are replaced by the own bone substance: this is made possible by a new hybrid shaping technique developed at Fraunhofer IKTS. The patient-specific, hard bone shell comes out of the 3D printer. The spongy inner structure is simulated by a ceramic freeze foam, which is proven to support cell growth and is pressure-resistant and bioactive, too.
